Every time you encounter someone is a storytelling opportunity. And storytelling in organizational settings is different from TV shows or short fictional narratives - they have a distinct purpose, supported by data, and are impactful when authentic. Join award-winning professor, Dan Fogel in this session to cover the core structure of excellent stories, how to achieve the outcomes you desire, and the nuances of influencing others through stories. The session has lots of examples and time to work on a few of your stories!

Session Goals, Overview, and Outcomes

Every opportunity you are with colleagues, customers, your boss, your friends, new acquaintances, or your suppliers is an opportunity to tell a story. This session will cover how to create and tell a simple yet compelling, memorable story in a corporate environment. The main goal of this session is to enable participants to share a story about an experience and link it to a business message that will influence and inspire your audience into action. To accomplish this goal, at the end of this session you will be able to:

(1) Use the And, But, Therefore method as a core storytelling structure;

(2) Use the "OUTCOME" model to create a more compelling story

(3) Apply this information to job interviews, training and educational courses, team interactions, written documents, and presentations.

Participants will have an opportunity to create stories and get feedback about how to improve them. The session includes many examples of effective stories in a corporate environment. Participants will also receive an annotated bibliography for enhanced, follow-up learning about storytelling.
